The many friendships, rivalries and grudges help define My Hero Academia, with Izuku Midoriya’s adoration of All Might being just the beginning. Ochaco Uraraka sees Izuku as his personal role model, and even the teachers at UA are connected by several threads. Class 1-A’s homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa , has a fascinating history with Midnight, for example.
Two couples of bachelors are certainly not romantically linked, but they have been intimately influenced by each other. Students like Izuku would find it hard to believe that the stoic and reserved Aizawa and the amusing Midnight form a strong relationship, but they do. And this bond has played a role in the popularization of Shota Aizawa. Shota Aizawa And The Midnight Student Days Together
Midnight, as illustrated in the My Hero Academia Vigilantes spin-off, was a third year at University A in the main series, while Shota Aizawa and Present Mic were second years. Even then, Aizawa and Midnight acted as they would in the main series, but they quickly turned into allies and teammates. Midnight, who worked for Prince Purple’s Hero Agency, volunteered to take Aizawa, Oboro, and Present Mic on as interns-an offer the boys accepted. During the fight, Aizawa struggled with his alternate personality, but he learned to control it. Hitoshi Shinso resurrected this training method years later.
Meanwhile, Midnight became close to Aizawa because of their love of cats, and she helped care for a stray animal that Aizawa discovered and named Sushi. When their friend Oboro was killed in battle, Midnight and Aizawa were devastated, but they had the mental strength and resolve to move forward. Later, as a former Amity University student and Pro Hero, Midnight decided to become a teacher in order to encourage his friend Aizawa. Aizawa resisted at first, being the melancholy loner type, but at some point Midnight indeed submitted the applications to UA for Aizawa and Aizawa finally decided to really become a teacher. He was rather grumpy about it at first, but Midnight’s cockiness and optimism penetrated his heart enough that Aizawa wanted to try his luck. It was a great idea.
Shota Aizawa And Midnight, Mentors Of The Second A
Shota Aizawa took over as 1-A’s instructor, but strangely enough, creator Kohei Horikoshi considered putting Midnight in the role before deciding that a rigid personality like Aizawa contrasted well with the rambunctious children. Midnight, in fact, took the 1-A class for a while during events in the story. With Aizawa busy elsewhere, Midnight was able to momentarily take over class 1-A. The best example of this is when Midnight was helping the students come up with the names of their heroes – and she was much more supportive and cheerful than her old friend Aizawa (even though she couldn’t bring herself to approve “King Explosion Murder”).
This bond of camaraderie, as a whole, is about Midnight bringing out the best in Aizawa, and Aizawa rewarded that friendship by being the best teacher she could be for the powerful students of Second A. Shota Aizawa has had difficulty accepting his identity, and he has locked himself behind loneliness. Until recently, Midnight and Aizawa’s other allies gave him confidence and encouraged him to worry less and less about being alone. Shota Aizawa wasn’t exactly on his way to becoming a villain, but he hit a wall as soon as he became a hero or a person. Midnight helped him get back on his feet.
In the present, Aizawa finds teaching very enjoyable, and this grumpy mentor is especially proud of his students. He will do anything to defend them and bring out the best in these teenagers – just as Midnight once did for him. It’s the most effective way for Aizawa to repay Midnight for the positive benefit she had on him.
