Kōhei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia manga is a shōnen series about Izuku Midoriya, a young boy with dreams of becoming a hero despite his eccentric status. Kōhei Horikoshi started the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 2014, and it was published in English by Viz Media from February 2018 to August 2020. Since April 2016, the French edition has been published by Ki-oon, with 27 volumes to date.
Is My Hero Academia, a cult anime series popular in France and the US, available on Netflix in both countries? My Hero Academia is based on the manga by Kohei Horikoshi. The anime debuted in 2015 and centres on a society where superpowers known as Alter exist.
After the success of Midoriya, the show was adapted into a long-running manga and anime series. The main character is Izuku Midoriya, who wants to train to become a hero even though he has no special abilities. Izuku is quickly taken under the wing of Japan’s greatest hero, who sees in him a potential to fight super criminals like One For All, his arch-enemy. The series is both an homage and a light parody of American superhero comics and movies, with the franchise now so popular that it has been used to promote Avengers in Japan. The My Hero Academia anime has been a runaway success, and will return for a fourth season in autumn 2019.
The franchise has also spawned a spin-off film, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, which takes place between seasons 2 and 3. The franchise continues to grow. Legendary Pictures (Pokémon Detective Pikachu) is working on turning My Hero Academia into a live-action film, but no director has been chosen yet.
With the popularity of the series increasing year on year, those new to the franchise may be wondering if My Hero Academia is currently on Netflix in the US or in France. Netflix subscribers will be disappointed to learn that the programme is not currently available.
It seems unlikely that this will change any time soon, as Hulu and Funimation recently entered into a licensing agreement that will make them the only platforms in the US to carry subtitled and dubbed versions of series such as Attack On Titan or My Hero Academia.
For those interested in My Hero Academia, Hulu and Funimation are currently the best options. While Netflix does not have the series yet, the platform is working hard to satisfy its anime fan base. Neon Genesis Evangelion will premiere in June 2019. A live-action series based on Cowboy Bebop is in development with John Cho, Mustafa Shakir and Daniella Pineda.
